MANUAL HANDLING TRAINING
The Manual Handling techniques taught are not the traditional “keep your back straight, squat down and lift with your legs” which are unnatural, Inefficient and usually ignored by workers.
The course is based on the new ergonomically designed CIEH techniques which focus on natural movement and because of this, your employees are more likely to adopted the techniques which will give them the best chance to keep themselves safe and injury free when Manual Handling.
COURSE CONTENT INCLUDES -
The Manual Handling Operation regulations & Employees legal duties – It is Important that employees know that they have a duty to look after their own Health & Safety, they must follow correct manual handling procedures, use any PPE or handling aids provided and report any injuries or problems.
Manual Handling Injuries & causes – If we are aware of how we might get injured then it will help us to avoid injury. Particular attention is paid to the back because half of all manual handling injuries involve back problems.
Understanding Individual capabilities – We are all unique as individuals so putting an exact figure on individual capabilities is impossible. Employees need to be aware that things such as health, age, build and fitness can all play a part in our capacity to perform Manual Handling tasks safely.
Making Assessments & employing Control measures –Candidates are taught to assess Manual Handling tasks quickly and simply so they can avoid injury. We look at four major areas known as “TILE”
We go through the most common hazards and control options in these four areas which makes learners more aware of potential hazards and how to avoid them.
Principles of Manual Handling – We run through the new ergonomically designed techniques which feel more natural and are more likely to be adopted by people performing tasks. These techniques will include –
Planning tasks – We think about checking loads, considering routes, looking for hazards we learned about in the TILE assessments.
Practical training & tasks – We always include practical training in the classroom which will include –
The course can also include working with learners in their normal working environment where we can discuss techniques for the particular Manual Handling tasks they are doing and we can make sure they are doing the tasks safely.
By the end of the course learners will have a comprehensive knowledge of theory and practical techniques that will give them the best chance to remain injury free when performing Manual Handling tasks.
The basic classroom only course lasts half a day for a maximum of 10 people. If we run the course to include assessments in the working environment then the course will run into the afternoon.
The basic half day course can be run twice in a day. 2 x 10 people maximum
