MOBILE WORK PLATFORM TRAINING

As an experienced IPAF Instructor for Mobile Work Platforms & Harness use, your on-site training for Booms (3b) Scissor lifts (3a) Static Booms (1b) and Push around vertical lift machines (PAV’s) will be thorough and cover everything required in order to set up and use these machines safely.

COURSE CONTENT

USING THE MANUFACTURERS HANDBOOK & PRE-USE CHECKS

All courses will include the importance of using the manufacturers handbook for conducting Pre-use checks and to fully familiarise with all the controls, characteristics, safety features & emergency systems on the machine.

Operators will check the machine has a current thorough examination certificate and they will know how to Pre-use check the machine to make sure that it is in good condition before using it.

If faults are found they will be taught to Isolate, tag & report the problems immediately.

RISK ASSESSMENTS & PLANNING TASKS

Operators will be taught how to risk access and plan the job they are going to do so they can do it safely.

They will have an awareness of hazards and will be taught to consider ground conditions. (moving & setting up on slopes, being aware of soft ground, awareness of ground pressure, avoiding underground services and trenches)

They will understand the effect of the weather on machine set-up (including Snow, Ice, Frozen ground, Sunshine, Rain, Thunder & Lightening and Operating in Wind) They will be shown how to check wind speeds by using an Anemometer correctly.

SAFE APPROACH TO AND FROM TARGETS

Operators will learn how to reach targets smoothly and safely using the controls, using the “function enable” and Proportional speed controls safely. They will be aware of potential crush hazards and how to prevent them by making good observations and correct positioning of their body in the platform.

SAFE WORKING LOADS

Operators will be aware of how to check safe working loads and maximum numbers of personnel allowed to work on the platforms. They will be aware of safe working load alarms and what to do in an overload situation.

HARNESS USE & INSPECTION

Operators need to know what PPE to wear including hard hats and harnesses. A special section will include - when Harnesses must be used - how to check their condition - how to fit them correctly -lanyard length and where to attach the lanyard to the machine.

EMERGENCY RESCUE

All Operators will know how to use the ground controls and will be familiarized with the Emergency systems on the machine so that they can rescue someone if required. They will understand the role of the emergency ground rescue person, awareness of the importance of communication and taking responsibility for the safety of personnel they are working with in the platform. Once again, because the training is in-company, it means your operators are being trained to use the actual machines they will use in their job role and you can rest assured they will be able to use the machines safely and well.

A maximum of 6 people can be trained on 1 machine in a day.

A maximum of 3 people can be trained on 2 machines in a day.
